Community Midwives
We have more than 30 community midwives who are based at GP surgeries across the borough – each surgery has an allocated midwife.
Antenatal clinics take place in your local GP surgery and the surgery will have details of when your midwife is available.
Once your pregnancy is confirmed you can book an initial community midwife appointment yourself; you do not need to see your GP first. The midwife will then book your future appointments at the surgery as required.
You will usually see the same midwife throughout your pregnancy whenever possible.
Following the birth the community midwife will visit you at home, the day after your discharge from hospital. This visit is to assess your health and your baby’s health and carry out a safe sleep assessment.
Our community midwives also support women who choose to have a home birth.
The service is available 9am-5pm, seven days a week.
