Mothering Sunday has been made brighter – and tastier – thanks to a donation for mums on the postnatal ward and Neonatal Unit at Walsall Manor Hospital.
Ash Brownsword, Senior Trader, and Charlie Campbell, Operations Manager, of CB Pugh in Darlaston, visited the hospital to deliver Mother’s Day biscuits and daffodils, through Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity.
As part of ‘The Best of Walsall’ group, CB Pugh often fundraises for local causes in an effort to support its local communities.
Ash and Charlie are keen fundraisers, having made donations for a number of years now. The pair have hosted gatherings and community barbecues, always aiming to raise some money and “bring smiles to people’s faces.”
Ash said: “We heard about Well Wishers and the work they do to support patients, of all ages and backgrounds, and approached Georgie the fundraising manager to see if our company could make a donation.”
Charlie added: “It’s nice to give something to people in hospital. If you’re in a position to help, you should. We hope this makes a difference in some way.”
Sally Giddings, Head of Midwifery, said “It’s really so kind of Ash and Charlie to make this donation for our mums. I’m sure they’ll all really appreciate the lovely gesture. Thank you to them and the company.”
Paris Showell was on the postnatal ward while treats were being distributed. She’s a first time mum with two bundles of joy – having had twin girls Willow and Harper White, born on 27 March 2025 at 4.11pm and 4.12pm respectively.
The girls arrived at 37 weeks via a planned caesarean section. Willow weighs 5 pounds 7 ounces and Harper – 5 pounds 4 ounces.
Mum and dad Callum, who live in Walsall, said they are “overwhelmed with happiness and love.”
Once discharged, they’ll be looking to spend Mother’s Day “resting at home with the little ones”.
Paris said: “Thank you to CB Pugh for the daffodils and the biscuit – what a lovely treat. A great surprise after you’ve given birth!
“We can’t fault the care – the staff have been brilliant throughout, always keeping a close eye on the girls. We’ve felt well looked after.”
Sophie Elscey, 31, also received a treat.
Baby George was born on 20 March at 8.31am weighing 8 pounds and 8 ounces. An eager visitor was big sister Olivia, four, who “couldn’t wait” for her baby brother to arrive.
“It’s a really cute gift to receive. What a great idea for a little “pick me up” for Mother’s Day while in hospital.”
Sophie added that Midwives had been “lovely” throughout her stay.
Thanks to DearEmilyDesigns who baked the biscuits with special ‘Happy Mothers Day’ icing.
