A team of intrepid theatre staff at Walsall Manor Hospital are climbing the highest mountain in Wales to raise money to refurbish an anaesthetic room.
The staff from Theatre 11 at the hospital want to complete the sponsored Snowdon hike on 26 April to transform the anaesthetic room to make surgery less daunting for children.
They are planning to raise at least £2,000 to pay for new wall art.
Laura Nunn, Theatre Sister, said they are looking for sponsors and donations for the project.
She said, “We want to create a more children-friendly theatre experience, and one way to do that is to paint graphic designs on the walls of the anaesthetic room.
“We get lots of children coming in for tonsillectomy, adenoids, grommets, etc., and they are often very nervous.
“We hope that by creating a fun scene using the hospital charity’s Humphrey Bear mascot in the room, we will give staff and children a talking point so they can focus on this before their operation.
“All the staff have really grouped together and are excited for this challenge.”
Georgie Westley, Well Wishers Fundraising Manager, said: “It is great that the team have got together to do this fundraiser and help their appeal reach its goal.
“They are so excited about the difference this refurbishment will make to their young patients, and we are all looking forward to the end result. Special thanks to Richard Scandrett from Drain Doctors based in Walsall for sponsoring the team on their venture.”
