This National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is proud to spotlight the achievements of two exceptional young adults.

NAW takes place from 10 to 16 February 2025 and brings together everyone passionate about apprenticeships and skills to celebrate the value, benefit, and opportunity that they bring.

Mariam Bismillah and Alicia Poston both embarked on a resourcing apprenticeship.

Mariam, 21, began hers in 2023, focusing on Business Administration Level 3.

Throughout her apprenticeship, she has gained invaluable skills in recruitment, including supporting new staff on their onboarding journey, maintaining staff records, and assisting with a variety of administrative tasks.

She said: “I’m passionate about my role and the skills I’m developing, especially as I continue to gain insights into recruitment and HR practices within the NHS.

“This apprenticeship has helped me build a solid foundation for a future career in healthcare administration. I hope to inspire young people and help them navigate their career goals, just as I once benefited from careers fairs and work experience opportunities.”

Alicia, 23, is currently completing a Level 3 Business Apprenticeship and has taken quite a career shift from performing arts to healthcare administration.

After earning a degree in theatre, Alicia discovered the apprenticeship opportunity at Walsall Healthcare and saw it as the ideal way to transition into a new professional field.

As a Resourcing Apprentice, she not only develops administrative skills but also interacts with a variety of people daily, gaining valuable hands-on experience.

She said: “I’ve really enjoyed the independence this role offers, and it’s been great to learn on the job while earning a qualification.

“While my background is in performing arts, I’m eager to eventually combine my passion for theatre with administrative work, particularly within theatre production. I believe this apprenticeship is helping me build a diverse skillset that I can apply in my future career.”

Heather Morris, Placement Lead and Kirsty Vigrass, Placement and Resourcing Administrator are part of the Placement, Employment and Experience Team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

They said: “Apprenticeships provide invaluable opportunities for hands-on learning and professional growth. Mariam and Alicia are prime examples of how apprenticeships can pave the way for bright, diverse careers. Their dedication and growth reflect the power of combining education with work experience.”
