World Cancer Day

2025-01-30T13:50:06+00:00Thursday 30 January 2025|

People can find out about local support services at a special pop-up event being held in Walsall to mark World Cancer Day next month.

Staff from Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust will be outside Costa Coffee in the main atrium of the Manor Hospital on 4 February from 9am until 4pm to give information and support.

Visitors and patients will be able to get information on how to check for symptoms of cancer and what to do if they have any concerns.

Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists will be on hand to offer guidance and advice on a range of potential cancer symptoms, health and prevention.

There will also be staff from the Macmillan Cancer Information Hub to provide further support.

Kelly Morris, Macmillan Living With Beyond Cancer Personalised Care Facilitator, said: “World Cancer Day is an international day observed every 4 February to raise awareness about cancer, encourage its prevention, and mobilise action to address the global cancer epidemic.

“Cancer is more than just a medical diagnosis—it’s a deeply personal matter. Behind every diagnosis lies a unique human story – stories of grief, pain, healing, resilience, love and more.

“We wanted to set up an event with cancer services staff, supported by our Clinical Nurse Specialists, to offer guidance and advice to passers-by on a range of potential cancer symptoms, health and prevention.”

Anyone in need of cancer support can contact Macmillan on 0808 808 00 00 or contact Walsall Healthcare’s Living With and Beyond Cancer Team on 07974112859 or via email at wht.lwbcwalsall@nhs.net.

Alternatively, people can drop into the Macmillan Cancer Hub, near Route 106, Outpatients Department at Walsall Manor Hospital from 9am-4pm, Monday- Friday.
