A first-time author has drawn on her young family’s experience of loss to help others who are coming to terms with challenges and difficulties – with a sprinkle of fairy magic along the way.
Kelly Rickards is an Information Governance Officer at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and is proud to have become self-published with her debut Adventures of Angie Amazonite.
The story focuses on tinker fairy Angie’s desire to make a positive impact by sharing the uplifting energy of her crystal with others.
She meets a diverse set of characters, each facing challenges and struggles, and uses the magic of affirmations and the radiant energy of her crystal to help them out, helping herself along the way.
Mother of two Kelly got the inspiration for her character following the death of her partner Leon Taylor, at the age of 36.
“Leon died suddenly, and this became a really difficult time for me, my son Theo, 10, and my daughter Tia-Nicole, 19,” she said.
“We were trying to work through our grief, come to terms with a life without him and hold on to our special memories.
“At this time Theo and I started visiting crystal shops and learning all about their meanings.
“I then started writing a story which drew on the positivity I experienced from others and how I was actually discovering more about myself as I learned to adapt to a different life with our children.
“I enjoy reading fantasy novels, I enjoy that escapism and find it uplifting. My book came out on 18 October – my 40th birthday – and two years after I first started writing down all my ideas.
“It is aimed at young adults from the age of 12 and I hope its message of spreading positivity – and the importance of meaningful connections and true friendship – helps and inspires others.”
Kelly, who has worked at Walsall Healthcare for a year, hopes to continue her writing and is already thinking of ideas for her second tale.
