Joint event to honour local heroes

Selfless volunteers and passionate charity supporters will take centre stage tonight at a joint awards event to honour their dedication and commitment to Walsall patients and healthcare services.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is holding its first joint Volunteers and Charity Awards event this evening to recognise the invaluable contribution made to Walsall Manor Hospital and its Community Services.

Previously, an annual event has been held for volunteers but with so many businesses, organisations and individuals now supporting the Trust’s Well Wishers charity, it was decided to make this even bigger.

A host of accolades will be presented including Volunteer of the Year, Special Recognition Award, Charity Recognition Award and Inspiring Others Award.

Sir David Nicholson KCB CBE, Chair of Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust Board and Lisa Carroll, Chief Nursing Officer, will join nominees at Pelsall Community Centre and Well Wishers awards will be given out by Paul Assinder, Chair of the Charitable Funds Committee, and Sally Evans Group Director of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement.

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, said: “We’re thrilled that this is our first charity awards event and there are so many deserving, potential winners to celebrate this evening.

“We have some fantastic supporters so it has been incredibly difficult to shortlist but we finally have our worthy winners. I am continually amazed at the support the charity receives from our colleagues, local businesses and the community – whether it be supporting an end-of-life wedding, boosting events, or simply helping us to promote the work done to enhance patients’ experience.

“I hope everyone has a wonderful night and enjoys being the centre of attention for once!”

Garry Perry, Associate Director – Patient Voice, added: This is always a special event in the calendar every year and now it’s extra special with us being able to acknowledge our charity supporters too.

“We’re so fortunate to have amazing volunteers who truly make a difference to the people who use our services. They are very much appreciated by our patients and staff alike and tonight is all about them.”
