Fundraisers who have supported a makeover for Walsall Manor Hospital’s Chemotherapy Unit will soon be able to see the results of the revamp as work is getting underway this weekend.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s charity Well Wishers has been able to donate almost £30,000 to the project thanks to efforts including a London to Paris cycle ride, 80s disco, Make A Will Fortnight and the efforts of The Radhe Krishna Group, a Hindu ladies group which meets at Shree Ram Mandir temple in Pleck.
Many fundraisers were inspired to back the project after seeing their loved ones treated in the unit, with others also keen to show their thanks following their own experiences with cancer.
Over the weekend, new wall graphics will be installed to brighten up the environment which is currently plain. These feature floral and beach themes. And four new reclining chairs will also be added to improve patients’ comfort.
Joan Dyer, Outpatients’ Matron at the Trust, said: “We have been amazed at the generous efforts of all those who have been fundraising for this project that is close to so many people’s hearts.
“It makes us feel humbled that people want to say thank you in this way – a way that will help so many others. We see between 50 and 60 patients a day for Chemotherapy and various clinics on the unit so this project will be making a difference to so many people. And the makeover will not only be beneficial to our patients but will also create a much more pleasant working environment for our teams.
“I can’t wait to see the new look next week and thank everyone who had an input into the designs!”

“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported this project which, as Joan says, will make a difference to so many patients. We will be looking to organise a little celebration to show off our refurbished unit in the near future to show how everyone’s hard work and commitment has paid off.”
