A brave Matron with a head for heights is getting ready to tackle a skydive to raise funds to help Walsall patients’ recovery.

Natasha Gallagher, Acute Matron in Medicine and Long Term Conditions at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, will be leaping 13,000 feet from a plane flying at speeds of up to 150mph.

The jump will take place on 15 August in Peterborough. Natasha is aiming to raise money for a state-of-the-art digital therapy system called RITA, which allows patients to use apps, games and other leisure activities as part of their hospital recovery.

RITA, which stands for Reminiscence Interactive Therapy Activities, is used primarily for elderly patients with cognitive impairments, such as dementia and has shown to be effective in calming distressed or anxious patients.

Natasha, 34, of Dudley has worked for the Trust for three years and has been a Matron for acute medicine for five months.

She said: “I have always wanted to do a skydive so I am very excited. I can’t wait and I am counting down the days now.

“I have a starting goal of raising £1,000 for the Acute Medical Unit and short stay ward at Walsall Manor Hospital, supported by our Trust’s Well Wishers charity.

“The Acute Medical Unit and short stay ward play a crucial role in providing immediate care and support to patients in need.

“The donations will be used to go towards purchasing RITA, a digital therapy system that allows patients to access entertainment, games and other leisure activities.

“Any amount donated will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.”

Georgie Westley, Fundraising and Engagement Manager for the charity, said: “I was so thrilled when I heard Natasha was taking on this challenge.

“It will not only support and raise the profile of Well Wishers, but also raise funds for what sounds like a fantastic piece of equipment that will enhance the experience of our patients when receiving treatment on AMU and our short stay ward.”
