A community stroke team from Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust has been commended for its work by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh on a recent visit to the region.
Their Royal Highnesses met the Community Stroke Team during a visit to the Rising Brook Community Church in Stafford earlier this month.
Jessica Jones, Stroke Liaison Nurse, alongside Sonia Jenkinson and Kirsty Harvey, were holding a health promotion session focusing on blood pressure management when they met the Royal pair.
They spoke to the Duke of Edinburgh about the services the team offers.
Their Royal Highnesses also heard more about the resources which the church provide for the local community during their visit.
Jessica said: “The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were doing some visits to local charities in Stafford and attended the church to meet the volunteers and service users. We had no idea they were going to visit that day so it was a lovely surprise.
“The Duke of Edinburgh chatted with us and we discussed our service and the importance of stroke prevention.
“We had some really good feedback from both His Royal Highness and the organisers at the church and have been invited back to complete more stroke prevention and health promotion sessions.
“It was a brilliant event and it was great to attend.”
The team is now working on plans for more health promotion sessions.
