A colleague of a former Walsall patient, who died last year, is organising a fundraiser in their memory to support the hospice that cared for them.
Martin Quinn is hosting a fundraising walk, which will take place on Saturday 20 April, to honour his late colleague Kamaljit Singh Bains, who died at Goscote Hospice on 12 July, following a short battle with lung cancer.
The Regional Head of HRL Midlands at Make UK had known Kam for 15 years and was his manager.
He said: “I wanted to do this to commemorate Kam in a positive way and help the hospice which looked after him so well in the final weeks of his life.
“I have good support from my colleague Louisa Sedgwick, who also knew Kam very well, and is leading on the organisation of the walk and we expect to have involvement and support from other colleagues too.”
Martin added:
“Kam was gregarious with a great sense of fun and humour but also a very experienced and well-respected employment lawyer, well-liked by his clients and colleagues and of course a loving father and husband. He was always willing to assist colleagues and had the ability to stay calm under pressure. He was quick to make a joke to lighten the mood and make people feel at ease.
“Kam made a lasting mark on the team and our workplace. He is missed greatly by the team and friends at Make UK. He was one of a kind and will be remembered fondly by all of us. A hole has been left in our team.”
Kimberley Aplin, Fundraising Support Officer for Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity which supports the hospice, said:
“It is so lovely to see Martin arrange this fundraising walk and colleagues getting involved, all in memory of Kamaljit. You can see that he was so loved. And we are so grateful that the money raised is going towards our hospice who looked after and cared for Kam during his time here. This will be added to the £2,500 donation which was raised by Kam’s cousin and cricket colleagues who held a charity cricket match at Walsall Cricket Club last October.”
