A community partnership has been shortlisted for a national award for its innovative work helping Walsall residents to stay well and out of hospital and improving access to health services.

Walsall Together has been shortlisted in the health and social care category at this year’s Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards.

The annual LGC Awards recognise outstanding achievements in local government. The health and social category recognises how councils have worked to improve or maintain services through facilitating integration and improving collaboration between the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Michelle McManus, Director for Integrated Place Based Development for Walsall Together, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for this award. Health and social care have faced many challenges during the last few years and by working together with our statutory partners and our colleagues in the voluntary and community sector, we have been able to make a real difference to the residents of Walsall. We put their voices at the heart of what we do and help them to stay well and out of hospital, reduce inequalities and improve access to services for our most disadvantaged communities.”

Kerrie Allward, Executive Director for Adult Social Care, Walsall Council, added:

“I’m so proud to hear that we’ve been short-listed for such a prestigious award, and it is testimony to all the hard work undertaken by partners, staff and councillors. This award recognises and promotes best practice in this critically important area and to receive national recognition at this level is wonderful news. “

Walsall Council has also been shortlisted in the ‘Most Improved Council’ category. This category recognises local authorities that have successfully led major organisational change or reform to deliver genuine improvement.

Judging will take place this spring and the results will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on Wednesday 12 June 2024.
