A grateful son has made a generous donation of £371 to Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust to thank staff who looked after his mum.
Nick Wood, from Walsall, wanted to do something to give back to Walsall Manor Hospital after his mum was treated there for cancer.
He runs a Northern Soul Facebook group called ‘Soul Catchers’ and came up with the idea to hold a disco fundraiser to raise money for Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity. The event was held at Bentley Moor Social Club.
Several DJs – Nick Wud, Alan Gibs, Sy Boatman and John Pritchard – entertained Northern Soul and Motown lovers all night and raised money from selling t-shirts and a raffle.
The 54-year-old said: “The event was really well attended and I feel fantastic to have raised this money as it is something really close to my heart.
“I wanted to do something to thank the staff who looked after my mum as they were superb and cared for her really well.”
Georgie Westley, Well Wishers’ Fundraising Manager, said: “A huge thank you to Nick and to all those who supported and attended the event. It is so lovely to see the community get together for a great cause. The money raised will make a huge difference.”
