Fundraisers are hoping that a 12-hour cycling marathon will help them pedal their way to pounds a-plenty for a new playroom on Walsall Manor Hospital’s Children’s Ward.
They will be taking part in a special Healthy Hearts Cycle-athon on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday 14 February, organised by Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Well Wishers charity.
Charity cyclists will be jumping in the saddle between 8am and 8pm on the day and so far around ten supporters have geared up to take part.
Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, said: “We’ve got people doing anything from a few minutes to an hour on the bike and every pedal counts towards our playroom project.
“Well Wishers is funding a £23,000 makeover of the playroom to transform it with new wall murals, wall art activities, equipment including role play areas and a wet play area. But we are continuing to raise funds for this project so people can either get on their bikes with us next week or come up with their own ideas.
“Our fundraiser is being supported by NRG Gym and Simply Gym on the day and we’re grateful for their support – and their stamina! We hope people will cheer us on. There will also be a spare bike if you would like to have a go and you can also grab yourself a free healthy snack.”
Manoj Lakha, Graphic Designer, has signed up to take part. He said: “I am really excited to support our charity with my spinning partner Tina Faulkner and we hope to encourage people to maintain a healthy heart for themselves as well as their friends and families.”
