Feedback from patients, families and carers who have experienced services at Walsall Manor Hospital and in the community has helped to create a draft strategy for improvement.
The draft Patient Experience Enabling Strategy focuses on priorities over the next three years and three areas of improvement have been identified – Involvement, Engagement and Experience. A short survey has been developed for the public and staff which will help finalise the strategy and enable this important work to get underway.
Garry Perry, Associate Director – Patient Relations & Experience at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “We have been gathering the views, ideas and suggestions of our patients, families and carers to develop a strategy that is very much the patient voice.
“This feedback has come via national and local surveys, our Friends and Family Test, concerns and complaints, compliments and daily discussions with the people who use the services of our Trust – both in the hospital and out in the community. Their responses have been invaluable and have helped get us to the point of this draft strategy. We want to take that a step further now before we formalise it and set about bringing it to life which is why we’re urging the public and our own staff to complete the short survey.”
Garry explained that the strategy had been created in collaboration with the Involvement Partners and Patient Experience Group at the Trust and includes the following key themes:
- Appointments and admission
- Customer Service
- Communication and Information
- Systems and Processes
- Treatment and Care
- Environment and Hospital Access
He added: “We believe we have shaped the strategy in accordance with the insight gained over the last 12 months but the survey is an opportunity for us to reinforce this or adjust things if necessary. We would urge people to please take the time to respond as we are keen to get going as soon as possible as it’s an ambitious three year commitment.”
The survey is open until 31 August and can be found here https://forms.office.com/r/A9UTutE2Sm
