Summer boost for Goscote Hospice

Patients at Goscote Hospice can enjoy some outdoor relaxation in style this summer thanks to a seasonal fundraiser which raised more than £600.

Last Christmas, Pelsall community came together for an appeal which was also a chance to remember loved ones.

This was ‘the memory star – light up a life’ appeal which was launched in collaboration with My Pelsall First team colleagues Edward Lee and Rose Martin.

The idea was that people could purchase a star in memory of a loved one and place it on the memory tree that was situated outside St Michaels Church, Pelsall.

The stars were £2 each and were on sale throughout December with money raised being donated to Goscote Hospice via Walsall healthcare’s Well Wishers charity.

Associate Director of Patient Relations & Experience, for the Trust, Garry Perry said: “Any type of fundraising requires effort and it’s always heart-warming when it captures the imagination of the community in the way the memory star appeal did. When someone you love becomes a memory the memory becomes treasurable and to provide an opportunity for people to share their thoughts in this way was meaningful and caring.

“Every one pound raised for charity demonstrates a commitment to care so it is always pleasing as the amount increases and I feel elated that this money will be benefitting Goscote Hospice as it has helped so many local families over the last ten years and no doubt will continue to do so in the future.”

Walsall Palliative Care Centre Manager, Sally Killian added: “Thank you to everyone who took part in this fundraiser and donated. It is very much appreciated by ourselves and our patients. We will put the donation towards the purchase of new patio furniture and parasols for patient decking areas. This will allow patients and their families to sit outside during warmer days.”

Fundraising Manger Georgie Westley said: “It’s great to see all the fundraising efforts that come through to Well Wishers. Everyone has the choice of which department or service they want their donations to benefit from and we are happy to see Goscote Hospice benefitting from the Pelsall community donations.”

Goscote Hospice now sits under Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity which serves the Manor Hospital and its Community Services.

The following services are provided by the hospice within the centre:

  • Management of 12 inpatient beds
  • Symptom control
  • Respite care
  • Dedicated round-the-clock care for those who need it the most
