Our Paediatric Wards and Paediatric Epilepsy Speciality Nurse are shining like stars after being awarded the Cavell Star Awards last month.
An inspiring national awards programme, Cavell Star Awards are given to nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants who shine bright and show exceptional care to one of three groups of people: their colleagues, their patients and patients families.
Paediatric liaison nurse Lisa Worth was the one who submitted the nominations after seeing all the great work everyone does day in and day out.
When asked why she wanted to submit these particular nominations she said:
“I have only worked in the acute setting in the trust since November 2020. Since that time I have witnessed the team working so succinctly together, they go above and beyond for their patients and work extremely well to support themselves as a team.
“They have had some challenging times during the pandemic and have all worked so hard to deliver excellent levels of patient care and support one another through these times.
“The CSWs and the play therapists are extraordinary! They work tirelessly to make the ward a child friendly place and ensure that the ward is a safe and comfortable place for children and young people. The play therapist ensures that the ward is decorated beautifully for the children for every occasion such as Christmas, Easter and World Book Day. They are an amazing team who deserve a very big well done and thank you.”
Lisa added: “Lynne Steadman is our Paediatric Epilepsy Speciality Nurse. She is a true nursing inspiration! Her knowledge and passion for caring for children and young people is both admirable and incredible. She is an expert within her specialism of nursing, she knows all of the patients on her caseload extremely well and works endlessly to advocate for them and ensure that their needs are being met.
“She ensures that when children are admitted to the ward that she takes the time out to personally go and see them and support the patient and their family. She is a role model for junior staff and is always there to support and listen to everyone who approaches her.”
John Orchard, Chief Executive of Cavell Nurses’ Trust explains why the Cavell Star Awards are so important:
“At some point in your life you’ll benefit from the care and compassion of a nurse, midwife or healthcare assistant. They bring our children into the world, they care for us in our hour of need and give comfort at the end of our lives.
“Nurses and midwives are incredible people and we feel they should know that. A Cavell Star Award is a way for nurses and midwives to say thank you to colleagues who have gone the extra mile to take care of their team, their patients or their patient’s families.”
Congratulations to our Paediatric team on their awards – they are already stars in our eyes and we are so #WalsallandProud of them!
