Well Wishers has started a new chapter in its fundraising story – with the launch of a mobile book service this week.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s charity has had to temporarily pause its big events due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Due to social distancing and visiting restrictions patients and visitors are also currently unable to pop into the Purple Hub to buy books that help raise money for the charity.
From today, wards at Walsall Manor Hospital will have a book list to show patients all the titles on offer and can select up to three that they would like, to make sure they get at least one of their requests.
Fundraising Manager, Georgie Westley said:
“Our patients and the public really love popping into the Purple Hub to pick up a 50p book. These sales brought in a healthy amount for Well Wishers and proceeds have previously helped to buy a scooter for patients with mobility issues to get around the hospital for example.
“Due to coronavirus we had to close the shop because of the infection control risk. However, I am now glad to say we will be doing a trial run of selling books again, albeit slightly differently, which will hopefully provide a distraction for patients here at the hospital.
“The book list will be updated regularly and there is a wide range of genres available. We hope this will be a success and help boost the charity until things settle down.”
