When you’re snuggling down to watch The Snowman or sitting round the dinner table with your loved ones, please remember the wonderful NHS staff who are working hard this Christmas Day.
Community Midwife Giulia Vespi is just one NHS worker who will be giving up some time on December 25 to help care for patients, specifically in this case, the mums of Walsall!
The 27-year-old visits women in the first 24 hours after being discharged from hospital – assessing them and their new-borns in their own homes and sharing advice around safe sleeping, feeding and more.
This Christmas, Giulia will be working from 9am – 5pm.
She explained: “It doesn’t matter what day of the year it is – there’s always going to be mums that need our help.
“The team here at Walsall Healthcare is brilliant – we really work together to make sure that all our mums are supported. It’s important that the women can rely on the professionals even on public holidays!”
Having joined the trust in 2015, Giulia is looking forward to spending the New Year back with her family in Italy.
“I wanted to visit my family for New Year’s and so it was only fair that I worked on Christmas Day ahead of my break away.
“There’s always a lovely atmosphere so I don’t mind. So far I’ve already had lots of offers of chocolate and mince pies; people are so generous!”
Thanks Giulia, you’re a Xmas Star! #WalsallandProud
